This genuine 1941, 5 yuan banknote was overprinted on December 13, 1941 just days before the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong. The government used the 5 yuan banknote to address the currency shortage and printed the red stamp on the existing storage. They were only in circulation until Christmas Day when the British surrendered. Condition is used and the stamp has faded with age. Serial number B188938. Pencil marking on the back. Provenance - this bank note came to Canada upon the return of an RCN service member in 1945 and has been with the family ever since. Dimensions: 3 1/8" x 6 1/8 Pickup category timeslot {A}
