Lot #9: Antique Smith Premier No 2 Typewriter Circa 1890s

Smith Premier No. 2, a classic late 19th-century typewriter known for its complex engineering and distinct double-keyboard layout. Needs restoration. The No. 2 was manufactured between approximately 1895 and 1914. It was the most popular model in the Smith Premier line. Instead of a shift key, this model uses a full "double keyboard" with 76 to 84 keys. The upper three rows are for uppercase letters and digits, while the lower four are for lowercase and punctuation. This is an understroke (or upstrike) machine so that the typebars strike the bottom of the platen so that you cannot see what you are typing until you manually lift or flip the carriage to check.
