Excellent sound original condition 5" x 1.75" gardinermuseum Dancing the Fandango Vase (c. 1978) by Mimi Cabri is currently on display in the special exhibition Collecting Memories: 40 Years of Ceramics and Community, spanning three floors of the Museum. An icon of Canadian ceramics, Cabri is inspired by mythology, historical figures, and her vivid imagination for storytelling. Born in South Africa, Cabri studied in Paris and immigrated to Canada in the early 1960s. She's known for her exuberant, expressively decorated forms. Cabri constructs her vessels of coil-built red earthenware clay, decorating them gesturally with slips, sgraffitio and colourful glazes. Her work can be found in collections at the Canada Council Art Bank, @cityofottawa, @artgallburl, Claridge (Bronfman) Art Collection, @canmushistory, and the Gardiner Museum. Cabri’s work is found in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civilisation, the City of Ottawa’s Fine Art Collection, The Canada Council Art Bank. She, along with Jill Elder, was the winner or the City of Ottawa’s Heritage Champagne Bath Art Renovation, and was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2003. Cabri was commissioned to create portraits on clay of the previous thirty recipients of the Saidye Bronfman Awards for their 30th Awards Ceremony in 2006. These works were on display at the Lafrenière and Pai Gallery in Ottawa. She has also made a series of hand-painted ceramic tile signs for several libraries and learning centers in Ghana.
