This rare antique &#34;fancy basket&#34; is a beautifully crafted example of Wabanaki weaving, one of the most celebrated Indigenous art forms of Eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. Hand-woven by Mi’kmaq artisans during the early 20th century, the lidded sewing basket is constructed from black ash splint and natural sweetgrass with natural dye accents. It showcases intricate decorative curls known as jikiji’j, a signature hallmark of Mi’kmaq artistry that flourished between the 1870s and 1930s when weavers created ornamental works for Victorian-era resort tourists.

This antique late 19th or early 20th-century biscuit barrel was crafted by Wedgwood in England between 1891 and 1921. The porcelain jar features a deep, cobalt blue body with hand-applied white bas-relief figures depicting Greek mythology and neoclassical pastoral scenes. Original silver-plated lid and delicate metal swing handle.

Excellent condition – no chips or cracks to the porcelain. The metalware shows significant, age-appropriate wear to the silver plating from historic use, resulting in a dark, authentic patina. The base is impressed with &#34;WEDGWOOD ENGLAND&#34; along with production numbers, and the underside of the lid is stamped &#34;EPNS&#34; for electroplated nickel silver.
