Jacob Pins was born into a Jewish family in Höxter, Germany on 17 July 1917 and immigrated to Palestine in 1936 at the age of twenty. After studying under German émigré Jacob Reinhardt (1941-45), he became a noted exponent of the woodcut, developing a highly personal style influenced by both German expressionism and traditional Japanese woodblock printing. In 1946 Pins provided the illustrations for &#39;Out of the Depths: Selected Poems and Essays&#39; by Shmuel Gorr, with an introduction by Manuel Gelman, published by the Ben Uri Literary Group in Melbourne, Australia. In 1955 a volume of Pins&#39; &#39;Landscapes&#39; was published in Tel Aviv with an introduction by Eugene Kolb, Director of the Tel Aviv Museum, who observed that the artist had &#39;worked out a technique of his own and fashioned himself a personal form of expression&#39;, which gained him a high reputation in both Israel and the United States. In the same year, these works were shown in a solo exhibition at Ben Uri Gallery at 14 Portman Street, London, under the title &#39;Woodcuts and Colour Prints by Jacob Pins (Israel)&#39;. From 1956 to 1977, Pins also taught at Israel&#39;s leading art schools, most notably Bezalel School of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, where he later became a professor. Celebrated as one of Israel&#39;s &#39;foremost woodcutters&#39;, he was also a noted collector. In 1978 he had a second solo exhibition at Ben Uri entitled &#39;Woodcuts&#39;. Pins also submitted designs to an exhibition of Children&#39;s Youth Aliyah Greetings Cards in 1961 and his work has also been shown in mixed Ben Uri exhibitions on numerous occasions including in 1960, 1966, 1970, 1977, 1980, 1983, 2002 and 2004. Jacob Pins died in Jerusalem, Israel on 4 December 2005.

Sound clean intact  Gaston Petridis is a French Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1949.


Gaston Petridis was born in Athens, Greece in 1938. His youth during World War II was relatively free from trauma, thankfully, but he and his many siblings were left to their own devices, spearing fish for their own dinner and collecting sea urchins, shell, and jasmine to sell in the markets to support their parents. In the aftermath of the War part of the family immigrated to Columbus, Ohio, where Gaston had more difficulty learning English than his brothers. Becoming withdrawn and shy, he retreated into nature and wound up exploring the surrounding countryside, where he happened to meet James Roy Hopkins at his farm in nearby Mechanicsburg. Hopkins, who had been head of Ohio State University’s Fine Arts Department until 1948, introduced Gaston to art for the first time. Inspired, Gaston began to emulate Hopkins and the Impressionists, and took private lessons with him until the early 1950s when Hopkins’ health began to deteriorate. Gaston spent the next forty years exploring and developing his own Post-Impressionist style, primarily painting with a palette brush and knife. His large-scale street scenes and landscapes were shown in galleries throughout the Midwest, and in the late 1990s he and his wife moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida for health reasons.

His works have been widely sold in Canada, the U.S.A., Mexico, South America and Europe, and have been publicized through the press and television.
He exhibited in Mexico City, Phoenix, Arizona, the Canadian National Exhibition, the Scandinavian Fair, Eaton&#39;s Fine Art Gallery, and achieved top sale at the first and second Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit.

Kate Church&#34;Combining the line and form of sculpture with the playful anima of puppetry has been my livelihood for more than 20 years. I stumbled into it during my time as a textile associate with Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia. A desire to do more than clothe puppets and puppeteers was part of creating my first little doll. Enchanted from the first moment, that doll still sits in my studio charming everyone who sees her.
The gesture of my work draws on a continuing practice and study of the human figure. Quietly engaging the tender emotional place I work from with an earned depth of experience, my intention is to carry a silent imprint or sense of emotion through the posture and expression of the figure evolving in front of me. Built using a simple armature that is movable throughout its construction, a tangible sense of emerging comes naturally to the finished sculpture. In fact, movement is part of the design.
I am proud to have created figures for Cirque du Soleil, which were sold internationally. For twenty years I produced an annual collection for  the One-of-A-Kind Show in Toronto. In 2012 I began to teach others what I have taught myself: a method and approach to building sculptural character. Fueled by the enthusiasm of the students, I facilitate everything from discovering a new art form to finding the confidence to tackle a career.&#34;
