Up for auction is a beautiful, authentic example of late-Victorian / Edwardian English transferware. This wide, rimmed soup bowl is executed in the highly collectible 'Montrose' pattern by Soho Pottery Ltd of Cobridge, Staffordshire, England, dating precisely between 1903 and 1905.The piece showcases a deep, heavily saturated cobalt blue floral medallion design with classic Flow Blue bleeding into the bright white glaze. The rim features an ornate scalloped and molded ridge design, highlighted by a delicate, hand-applied gilded gold edge.The underside features excellent diagnostic markings for the discerning collector, including the blurred blue stamped 'Montrose' Soho Pottery maker's mark, an impressed 'Queensware' shape mark with mold number 22, and a handwritten painter's/gilder's mark in orange enamel.
