Lot #13: Antique Blue Willow Warming Plates

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 3h 55m

This lot includes a pair of antique transferware ceramic plates in the iconic Blue Willow pattern. The hole in the edge of each plate suggests that these are hot water warming plates, also called "hot plates." They are deep hollow dishes designed to be filled with hot water to keep food warm during a meal. The Blue Willow pattern developed in the late 18th century in England and was inspired by Chinese export porcelain. One plate has a chip; see the photo. The bottoms of the plates are stamped with the mark of Copeland & Garrett New Blanche meaning they were produced in Staffordshire, England between 1833 and 1847. Dimensions: 9.75" diameter Pickup category timeslot {A}
