Two Pieces of Martha James Pottery (Creamer & Salt Shaker) • Martha James is potter, working in her Quadra Island studio, where she has been working with husband, Gordon James, since 1979. • She has a BFA Univ. of Calgary, and studied art in Florence, and Banff. • In 1984 Martha's entry of dinner ware was a finalist for a national competition "The Perfect Setting • Creamer: This is made with porcelain clay, decorated with spring like flowers and leaves on the exterior, and a deep cobalt blue on the interior. Fired to cone 10 in a gas kiln with a clear glaze on top. • Shaker: This is thrown with a cream coloured stoneware clay. The bottom half thrown, and the upper section hand molded. Martha used cobalt oxide for the decoration, and fired to cone 10 in a gas kiln with a celadon glaze on top. • Both in excellent condition, no breaks, cracks, or chips. View Images. • Creamer: 8 cm.
