Lot #43: Vintage Waltham & Telechron Mantle Clocks

Vintage Waltham balloon-style mantel clock, historically produced by the prominent Waltham Clock Company during the early 20th century. Clocks like this usually feature high-quality 8-day mechanical movements, often built with watch-style platform lever escapements, however, there is a key in bottom but nothing happens when turned. Untested due to back needs to be unscrewed in order to set clock. The distinctive "balloon" silhouette is highlighted by a carved beaded trim bezel accenting the outer edge and base. Piece on base corner is broken off. Wood has scratches as expected with items of this era. Dial features large, stylized Arabic numerals and elegant hands. 10x10.5” VTG Telechron electric mantel clock. This particular clock style-featuring a contoured wood tambour case, an analog dial with classic Arabic numerals, and a polished brass-toned bezel-is characteristic of Telechron models from the late 1920s. • The "Red Dot" tiny circular cutout located directly underneath the "12" on the dial is Telechron's patented power interruption window. If power to the clock was cut or blinked, a internal magnetic flag would turn red to warn the owner that the time was no longer accurate and needed resetting. When running normally with power, the window resets to match the dial color. Plugged in and second hand moved. Cord is old and frayed so did not test longer.
