Antique German Steins 1. Stein is a Mettlach Villeroy & Boch #2090 etched pottery stein designed by artist Heinrich Schlitt around 1898–1902. Design: Titled "Woman and a Tavern" (or Frau und Kneipe), featuring whimsical gnome/dwarf illustrations and a traditional pewter lid.Inscription: Features the humorous German rhyme: "Je schöner die Kneip, desto schlimmer für’s Weib; je schlimmer das Weib, um so schöner die Kneip" (The finer the tavern, the worse for the wife; the worse the wife, the finer the tavern). Numbered 9090, 10” high 2. Wekara German beer stein featuring an "Alt Heidelberg, du feine" relief design with a pewter lid. Made in Germany, typically produced as a mid-20th-century souvenir or collectible stoneware piece. Features cobalt blue and tan glazed stoneware with a molded architectural relief of Heidelberg Castle and traditional German text inscriptions. Numbered 5396, 6.5” high 3. West German ceramic souvenir beer stein featuring raised, hand-painted panels of Heidelberg and Perkeo, topped with a traditional hinged pewter lid.Design Features: Deep cobalt blue and peach-glazed ceramic body with embossed artwork showcasing Heidelberg Castle and the iconic court dwarf Perkeo. Hardware: Cone-shaped, richly textured metal lid attached with a functional pewter hinge and thumb-lift.
