Antique & Vintage Button Collector’s Collection with Research Archive & Carrying Case Extensive longtime button collection housed in a vintage red carrying case and accompanied by the original collector’s research, reference materials and ephemera. Collection contains a large assortment of antique and vintage buttons in numerous styles, sizes and materials. Many remain arranged on the collector’s original handmade cards and fabric display rolls, with additional examples stored loose and in organized bags and compartments. Includes decorative metal and pictorial buttons, mother-of-pearl and shell examples, glass and composition buttons, shank buttons, uniform and monogrammed examples, carved and moulded designs, matching sets and numerous unusual specialty buttons. Several striking metal examples feature birds and other detailed pictorial designs, along with ornate floral and geometric decoration. An especially interesting part of the collection is the accompanying archive. Included are original typed writings titled “Collecting Buttons” and “Buttons” by Ina Fisher, along with period articles and reference material relating to button collecting, identification, classification and history. Documentation also includes vintage National Button Society material, including a membership application and Annual Show information, Just Buttons Magazine material and period articles devoted to button collecting. In her writing, the collector describes beginning to collect buttons as a child and later developing a greater interest through dressmaking. She notes that much of her collection was assembled from Southern Ontario, with buttons obtained from friends and relatives, sales and trades. Includes mounted, carded and loose buttons, original handmade collector display cards and fabric rolls, bags of additional unsorted buttons, reference materials, collector notes, vintage ephemera and red carrying/storage case. Some cards retain the collector’s handwritten prices, classifications and notes. Collection has been preserved largely as it was assembled by the original collector. Age, wear, staining and deterioration are present to some paper materials, cards and storage components. Buttons have not been individually researched, dated or authenticated by the auction house.
