A magnificent copy of Led Zeppelin's sixth studio album, the monumental 1975 double masterpiece, Physical Graffiti. This foundational pillar of rock history is presented in impeccable aesthetic condition, making it a premier centrepiece acquisition for vinyl collectors and audiophiles alike. The standout feature of this specific lot is the preservation of its complex jacket construction. While most vintage copies suffer from fraying, seam splits, or tearing around the fragile cutout windows, this outer sleeve remains structurally outstanding with no tears to the cutouts. High-value collector note - Kashmir Track misprint - more notes below. Artist: Led Zeppelin Album Title: Physical Graffiti Format 2 x LP (Double Album) Release Date: 1975 (true first generation pressing) Record Label: Swan Song Records (the band's own custom imprint label)/ Atlantic Recording Corp. Audio Mix: Stereo Matrix runout: ST-SS-753309-1A-2H Catalog Number: 2SS 200 Jacket Printing: Shorewood Packaging Corp. of Canada Ltd. Cover Art: Designed by Peter Corriston and Mike Doud, the artwork for Physical Graffiti is universally celebrated as one of the most intricate and creative packaging designs in vinyl history. The fron timage features a real-world symmetrical photograph of two tenement buildings located at 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York City's East Village. To fit the square dimensions of an LP jacket, the designer had to meticulously crop out the fourth floor of the buildings. The windows of the building are physically cut out (die-cut). Depending on how you orient the custom-printed inner sleeves and the white title insert inside the jacket, different artwork, text, or letters spelling out "PHYSICAL GRAFFITI" show through the window openings. If you look closely through the windows, you will find an eclectic mix of hidden historical figures, pop-culture tenants, and inside jokes including: Neil Armstrong's Apollo teammate Buzz Aldrin, Elizabeth Taylor styled as Cleopatra, The Wizard of Oz cast, Led Zeppelin band members dressed in drag (hidden on one of the inner sleeves), King Kong, Laurel & Hardy, Flash Gordon, W.C. Fields, Lee Harvey Oswald, Charles Atlas, Pop Leo XIII, Queen Elizabeth II, The Virgin Mary, Prosperine, excerpts from Da Vinci and Caravaggio fine art, vintage advertising (including an ad for Pears Soap). Many a nod to the groups conspiratorial ties amongst modern discussion. The front jacket depicts the tenements basking in the daylight, whereas the back jacket switches to a shot of the exact same buildings at night. Track List: representing the absolute peak of the band's creative and improvisational spectrum. Because the eight newly recorded tracks from the early 1974 Headley Grange sessions ran too long for a single album but too short for a double, Jimmy Page creatively supplemented the release with unreleased tracks saved from their previous album eras. 753309-1A-2H matrix runout: an exceptionally collectible 1975 original Canadian first pressing manufactured at the Columbia Records Pressing Plant in Don Mills, Ontario (hired by distributor WEA Music of Canada Ltd.). Superior audio mastery: the 2H engraving signature signals an early pristine cut from the original master tapes sent directly to the Canadian production facilities in 1975, delivering the deep, punchy analog dynamic range that modern reissues simply cannot replicate. "Kashmir" Track Misprint: many Canadian early-run variations featuring the 1A-2H matrix stamp are highly sought after by collectors as misprint releases. On these specific early labels, the track "Kashmir" (Track B3), is mistakenly listed with a brief running time of 3:41 instead of its actual epic length of 9:41. Audiophiles and variant collectors hold this at a premium for this specific label error. Auction Note: All lots are from a single estate collection. This is an opportunity to purchase a carefully curated decades-spanning collection from a single collector. The majority of the vinyl is in near mint condition with many appearing unplayed - if there are flaws or scratches of note we did our best to photograph that specifically.
