Bidding starts in 0d 1h 17m

Vintage Canadian pressing of Chicago III, the acclaimed third studio album by legendary jazz-rock band Chicago. Released in 1971 as a double LP set, this specific copy was manufactured by Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd. and features sought-after early matrix runout stamps. This record is a fantastic addition for collectors specializing in regional Canadian classic rock pressings and early 1970s audio artifacts. Artist: Chicago Album Title: Chicago III Format: 2 x Vinyl, LP, Album, Gatefold Sleeve Record Label: Columbia Records/ Columbia Records of CAnada, Ltd. Catalog Number: C2 30110 Matrix Runout: P BL 30265 Release Year: 1971 Cover Art: Designed by Columbia's legendary art director John Berg, the cover features the iconic cursive "Chicago" logo over a beautiful, heavily distressed American flag pattern. The flag design was actual fabric sewn by artist Natalie Williams and photographed by Sandy Speiser to give the sleeve its distinct textured, woven appearance. Included Anti-War Insert Poster: the original, highly controversial large fold-out insert poster photographed by Horn/Griner. It depicts all seven original band members dressed in authentic military uniforms from various historical wars, standing somberly in a field of white cemetery crosses. The bottom corner features printed text listing historical US war casualties up to 1971. It was an anti-war statement aimed directly at the ongoing Vietnam War. Because these massive posters were frequently taken out and pinned to bedroom walls in the 1970s, finding a Canadian pressing that still contains a poster intact drastically increases the overall value. 22"x33" fold-out poster. Unlike conventional pop records of the era, Chicago III is highly prized by audiophiles for its ambitious, multi-part progressive suites spanning across four district vinyl sides. Side 1: opens with the hard-hitting jazz-rock track "Sing a Mean Tune Kid". Side 2 (Travel Suite): a sprawling 6-part journey including the hit single "Free" and the experimental, free-improvisation piece "Free Country". Side 3 (An Hour in the Shower): 5-part conceptual suite tracking a morning routine, immediately followed by the hit single "Lowdown". Side 4 (Elegy): a somber, grand finale containing experimental musique concrete elements ("Progress?") and the heavy instrumentals of "The Approaching Storm". Auction Note: All lots are from a single estate collection. This is an opportunity to purchase a carefully curated decades-spanning collection from a single collector. The majority of the vinyl is in near mint condition with many appearing unplayed - if there are flaws of note we did our best to photograph that specifically.
