Vintage, original Canadian pressing of Chicago's self-titled second studio album, retroactively and universally known as Chicago II. Manufactured by Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd., this foundational 2-LP jazz-rock masterpiece comes house in its iconic gatefold jacket and includes the highly sought-after original giant foldout wall poster. Features the highly coveted original Red labels with white "360 Sound" Stereo text. Artist: Chicago Album Title: Chicago (commonly referred to as Chicago II) Label: Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd. Catalog Number: KGP 24 Matrix: XSM151853 Format: Double LP, 12" Vinyl, Stereo, Gatefold Release Year: 1970/1971 Cover Art (Canadian Manufacturing Variant): front cover features the classic Columbia Stereo crest in the top left, while the rear or interior jacket features the Canadian manufacturing text layout distinctive to Columbia Records of Canada releases. This specific release marks the very first time art director John Berg and designer Nick Fasciano introduced the legendary, flowing cursive "Chicago" logo. Berg designed the typography to resemble a Coca-Cola inspired pop-art brand, a visual signature that the band utilized for decades. The front cover features a striking printed brushed silver, industrial metallic background texture. This is the first album released after shortening their name from "Chicago Transit Authority" due to legal pressure from the city's actual mass-transit operator, making it a pivotal piece of classic rock history. This double album is highly praised for its ambitious, progressive structure, split into distinct long-form musical movements. The Masterpiece Suite: Side 2 features James Pankow's brilliant 7-part, 13-minute progressive suite titled "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon", which includes the timeless top-10 hits "Make Me Smile" and "Colour My World". Classic Anthems: Side 3 is anchored by the explosive jazz-rock fusion anthem "25 or 6 to 4", driven by Terry Kath's iconic guitar riffs. Included Bonus (Original Giant Wall Poster): featuring a composite photo grid of the original seven band members photographed by legendary rock photographer Herb Greene. Complete posters are frequently missing from vintage Canadian copies, making this a highly valuable upgrade for collectors. Canadian Print Disambiguation: The spine features the vintage Canadian manufacturing print mark "MG Litho in Canada", specific to early 1970 Columbia Records of Canada factory runs.
