Highly collectible, original 1st Canadian pressing of The Doors' seventh studio album, Other Voices, released in October 1971. This particular variant holds unique historical significance for vinyl collectors, as it represents a transitional era in both the band's career and Canadian music distribution history. Artist: The Doors Title: Other Voices Label: Elektra Records Catalog: EKS 75017 Release: 1971 The Post-Morrison Era & The Artwork: This was the definitive first album released by the group following the death of front-man Jim Morrison in July 1971. The cover art features a minimalist black-and-white portrait of the three remaining members - Robby Krieger, John Densmore, and Ray Manzarek - shot by renowned photographer Ron Raffaelli. The stark, somber imagery serves as a direct message to fans that the band was moving forward as a cohesive trio. Rehearsed with Jim: several instrumentals and rough skeletons for tracks like "Down on the Farm" and "In the Eye of the Sun" were actively rehearsed with Jim Morrison before he departed for Paris. The album features "Ships w Sails" a critically praised 7-minute progressive jazz-rock fusion epic, alongside "Tightrope Ride", which served as a direct tribute to Morrison's chaotic life and passing. Kinney Music Distribution Variation: in 1971, Warner Bros. reorganized its properties into Kinney Music of Canada, which took over manufacturing and distribution for the Elektra label. Canadian prints explicitly bearing the "Kinney Music" credits on the jacket bottom or vinyl labels were only manufactured for a very brief period, making them considerably scarcer and highly sought-after by international discography completionists.
