Exceptional, audiophile grade US vintage vinyl pressing of of Marvin Gaye's classic soul masterpiece, "That's The Way Love Is". Originally released in late 1969 and carrying the early 1970 Tamla catalog marking, this specific variant is a highly sought-after West Coast matrix master run that sets it miles apart from standard commercial pressings. This copy features the distinct "Motown Sound" promotional inner sleeve and carries premium, verified dead wax matrix indicators that represent the key markers of Motown vinyl manufacturing. Artist: Marvin Gaye Title: That's The Way Love Is Label: Tamla / Motown Records Catalog: TS 299 Release: 1970 Master-Tier Audiophile Pressing Specs: Mastering Facility (Artisan Logo): features the stamped Artisan Sound Recorders Logo (resembling a stylized, long-legged drafting compass forming an "A"). This guarantees that the original physical lacquers were processed at the legendary Artisan facility on Hollywood Boulevard, celebrated for its unmatched sonic clarify, dynamic range, and high-fidelity mastering. Mastering Engineer (Wayne Cook signature): includes the hand-etched script WIK signature, confirming the cutting lathe was operated directly by legendary RCA/Motown audio technician Wayne Cook. Collectors hunt for his signature because it guarantees the grooves were cut cleanly with strict quality control from first-generation master tapes. Pressing Plant (Monarch Delta Mark): features the etched Delta/Triangle Symbol followed by early sequence tracking indicators. This confirms the copy was manufactured at the prestigious Monarch Record Mfg. plant in Los Angeles, California. Monarch pressings are highly prized by vinyl purists for using premium, heavier vinyl compositions that produce a deeper, punchier low-end mix compared to standard East Coast plants. Iconic Cover Art: stunning, psych-soul illustrative cover artwork designed by the famous artist Walter Velez (credited alongside Craig Braun, Inc.). Known for his deep purple, pnik, and monochromatic layered colour tones, Velez beautifully captures the smooth, introspective "Prince of Soul" persona. The front cover art is a staple of late 60s/early 70s commercial design and remains a highly displayable piece of pop art history. Track List & Covers: Unlike some of Gaye's self-penned conceptual works, this release is an incredible showcase of him interpreting classic hits, produced alongside the brilliant Norman Whitfield. Side A features: Marvin's legendary soulful covers of The Beatles' "Yesterday" and The Young Rascals' "Groovin'", alongside the heavy-hitting "I Wish It Would Rain". Side B: includes a powerful rendition of The Temptations' psych soul anthem "Cloud Nine". Auction Note: All lots are from a single estate collection. This is an opportunity to purchase a carefully curated decades-spanning collection from a single collector. The majority of the vinyl is in near mint condition with many appearing unplayed - if there are flaws of note we did our best to photograph that specifically.
