Highly collectible, genuine 1974 Canadian first pressing of The Rolling Stones' classic studio album, It's Only Rock 'n Roll. Released under Rolling Stones Records, this specific variant features the sought-after WEA Music of Canada Ltd. credit on the label. It comes complete with its original custom illustrated inner sleeve containing the album credits. This copy was manufactured using premium US-cut metal parts sent over the border, combining elite American mastering with the initial Canadian market release. Catalog: COC 79101 Side 1 Matrix: ST RS 743197 / AT (Atlantic Studios mastering signature) Side 2: PR (pressed using metal parts from Presswell Records, New Jersey) Cover Art: breathtaking, decadent pop-art masterpiece painted by legendary Belgian artist Guy Peellaert. Peelaert caught the band's eye with his surreal 1974 rock history book Rock Dreams. Despite depicting the Stones rather subversively in the book, the band loved his style and hired him to paint this cover. It showcases the five-piece lineup descending a grand, classical temple staircase inside a theater, swarmed by adoring, draped fans. This remaines one of the final visual representations of the band's celebrated "Taylor Era". Shortly after, Peelaert famously went on to paint David Bowie's iconic Diamond Dogs cover artwork. This album marks a massive evolutionary turning point for the band's sound, introducing heavier integration of funk, reggae, and glam elements. Features the iconic "Produced by the Glimmer Twins" credit - marks the historic first time Mick Jagger and Keith Richards officially used their famous production pseudonym, "The Glimmer Twins". The moniker was born during a vacation to Brazil in late 1968/ early 1969. While traveling on a boat, an older English couple kept asking the duo who they were, as they looked famous. Refusing to reveal their true identities, Jagger and Richards told them to just give them a hint, to which the couple replied, "Just give us a glimmer!" Following the departure of their longtime producer Jimmy Miller after the 1973 Goats Head Soup, this credit signals the moment Jagger and Richards took complete creative and sonic control of their studio output. Auction Note: All lots are from a single estate collection. This is an opportunity to purchase a carefully curated decades-spanning collection from a single collector. The majority of the vinyl is in near mint condition with many appearing unplayed - if there are flaws of note we did our best to photograph that specifically.
