Lot #28: Quatermass - Self-Titled LP (1970) Canada First Pressing

Highly sought-after, rare Canadian first pressing of the self-titled debut (and only) studio album by British progressive rock power-trio Quatermass. Released in 1970, this album is a penultimate selection for fans of heavy, keyboard driven progressive rock. This particular copy was manufactured in Canada by Capitol Records (Canada) Ltd. on the classic green Harvest Recrods label. A true collector's piece, these early Canadian Harvest pressings were manufactured in very limited quantities and deleted from the catalog quickly, making them exceptionally difficult to find today. Catalog: SKAO-314 Cover Art: iconic, highly recognizable artwork created by the legendary design studio Hipgnosis (famed for their work with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Genesis). The striking gatefold design portrays pterodactyls flying seamlessly between the stark, parallel window grids of modern skyscrapers. This visual commentary on prehistoric nature clashing with cold, futuristic architecture is a defining piece of 1970s surrealist rock imagery. Track List: the power trio - consisting of John Gustafson (bass/vocals), Peter Robinson (keyboards), and Mick Underwood (drums) - forgoes a traditional lead guitar to anchor their sound entirely on aggressive, distorted Hammond organ and heavy percussion. Side 1 track 2 - Black Sheep of the Family - written by Steve Hammond, this track is highly famous among rock collectors.
