Lot #5: Possible Werner Scholz–Attributed Expressionist Floral Artwork original painting

A striking and emotionally charged floral composition, presented beneath glass in a warm natural-wood frame with a generous neutral mat. Rather than offering a conventional botanical study, the artist builds the image through bold black passages, sweeping brushwork and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow. The pale, trumpet-shaped flowers appear to emerge from the darkness, creating a powerful sense of movement, fragility and mystery. This artwork may be attributed to, or associated with the artistic tradition of, Werner Scholz (1898–1982), an important representative of the second generation of German Expressionism. Scholz was a contemporary of artists such as George Grosz and Otto Dix and became known for forceful, expressive imagery that explored emotional intensity, hardship and human isolation. His work frequently employed dark tonalities, energetic gestures and psychologically charged contrasts. Although the subject here is floral rather than figurative, the expressive handling, restrained palette and commanding use of black, grey and earthy brown give the composition a distinctly European modernist character. The flowers are not treated as delicate decoration; they become almost theatrical forms—luminous, sculptural and alive against the shadowed background. Beautifully framed and ready to display, this is a sophisticated statement piece for a living room, study, executive office or professionally curated gallery wall. Its monochromatic palette allows it to complement both modern and traditional interiors, while its expressive presence ensures it will never fade quietly into the background. Please note: The Werner Scholz attribution has not been independently authenticated and should be presented as a possible or researched attribution rather than a confirmed authorship. A close examination of the signature, reverse, labels and paper would be required before making a definitive claim. Dimensions: 17W. x. 22H Pickup category timeslot {A}
