Hand-thrown studio pottery mug by Canadian potter Kayo O'Young, signed and dated 1997 to the underside. Finished in vibrant flowing blue, burgundy, cream and amber glazes with a comfortable loop handle. A fine example of the artist's distinctive functional pottery. Kayo O'Young (b. 1950) is a Canadian studio ceramic artist widely regarded as one of Canada's premier porcelain potters. Born in Canton (Guangzhou), China, he immigrated to Canada in 1965. Although largely self-taught, he came from a family of potters and began working with clay as a young child. He is often described as "a potter's potter," reflecting the high regard he has earned from fellow ceramic artists. O'Young has taught ceramics at colleges and universities, exhibited internationally, and his work is held in museum, corporate, and private collections.
