Lot #466: Vintage Burmese Red Lacquerware Offering Trays – Handcrafted Pedestal Stand & Low Tray

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 7m

Description: Striking pair of vintage Burmese-style lacquerware offering pieces, showcasing traditional Southeast Asian craftsmanship and a beautifully aged red lacquer finish. Lot includes a dramatic pedestal offering/display stand with an open slatted bamboo/wood center and a companion low circular tray. Pieces of this form were traditionally used in Burma (Myanmar) for the presentation of food, ceremonial items and offerings. The construction is especially appealing: formed from lightweight wood and/or bamboo elements and finished with layers of rich red lacquer. Years of use have produced wonderful variations in color, exposed underlying material, surface wear and darkened patina that give these pieces an unmistakably old-world character. Condition is important: Both pieces show considerable age-related wear. The low tray has multiple prominent cracks, separations and splits around the rim, sides and base, clearly visible in photographs. The pedestal stand also exhibits surface wear, scratches, losses to the lacquer, discoloration and other signs of age and use. These pieces are offered as found and have not been restored. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition. Despite their imperfections, these remain wonderfully decorative examples of traditional Asian lacquerware. The aged red surfaces, handcrafted construction and architectural pedestal form make the pair especially attractive for collectors, global interiors, display or decorative use. Highlights: * Two vintage red lacquerware pieces * Burmese/Myanmar style * Traditional offering/display forms * Pedestal piece with distinctive open slatted construction * Handcrafted wood/bamboo construction * Rich, naturally aged red lacquer surfaces * Significant patina and evidence of age * Cracks, splits, separations and lacquer losses present * Sold as found and unrestored * Wonderful decorative character for an Asian or globally inspired interior Please note: Exact age and origin have not been independently authenticated. Attribution is based upon construction, form and appearance. Pickup category timeslot {A}
