Striking antique Gothic Revival hall chair featuring an exceptionally decorative high pierced back with elaborate Gothic tracery, quatrefoil and trefoil motifs, carved crest and turned finials. Richly toned wood displays wonderful age, character and patina throughout. The hinged seat opens to reveal a useful concealed storage compartment. The architectural carving gives this unusual chair a distinctly ecclesiastical / cathedral-inspired character, making it an exceptional statement piece for a traditional, Gothic Revival, antique or eclectic interior. Solid, functional and sturdy, with the chair currently functioning as intended. The hinged seat is currently detached from its attachment points but sits securely and properly in position; reattachment/restoration will be required. A small section of decorative trim is missing from the front right side near the seat/back junction. Seat drawer has a broken piece of wood in drawer section.
