A fantastic trio of Slovenian banknotes from the country’s early years of independence, with all three examples beautifully preserved in their original protective sleeves. This lot includes three 1997 Slovenian 200 Tolarjev notes, Pick #15, each featuring the striking portrait of Jacobus Gallus (1550–1591), the renowned Renaissance composer and one of Slovenia’s important historical cultural figures. The design is wonderfully distinctive, combining his portrait with architectural and decorative elements in rich burgundy, blue and green tones. Turn the notes over and the musical theme becomes even more apparent. The reverse features the Slovenian Philharmonic and an elaborate reproduction of musical notation, along with the issue details “Ljubljana, 8 October 1997.” It is an especially attractive design for collectors interested in the intersection of currency, art, music and Slovenian history. The three notes are presented individually in protective plastic sleeves and retain their original collector/souvenir labels, which identify them as Slovenia Souvenir, Pick #15, dated 1997. The original labels also show prices of approximately 4.00 each, providing a fun glimpse into their earlier collector history. Details: * 3 banknotes * Slovenia * 200 Tolarjev * 1997 * Pick #15 * Bank of Slovenia * Portrait of Jacobus Gallus (1550–1591) * Reverse features the Slovenian Philharmonic and musical notation * Ljubljana, 8 October 1997 * Individually housed in protective sleeves * Original collector/souvenir labels included * Attractive matching trio This is a particularly nice opportunity to acquire three matching examples of an obsolete Slovenian currency issue in one lot. The combination of the unusual portrait, gorgeous engraved artwork and musical imagery makes these much more than simply old money. They would make a terrific addition to a world banknote collection, Slovenian collection, European history display, or a collection focused on artistic and culturally themed currency. Three notes, one beautiful little snapshot of Slovenia’s post-independence monetary history. Pickup category timeslot {A}
