Interesting group of three Greek banknotes from the country’s World War II inflation period, including one 1942 5,000 Drachmai note and two 1944 500,000,000 Drachmai notes. The 1942 note features an elaborate design incorporating classical imagery, workers, ships and agricultural scenes. The two 1944 notes feature Apollo of Olympia on the obverse and a classical scene with horsemen on the reverse. A fascinating group illustrating the extraordinary inflation experienced in Greece during the German occupation and wartime period.
