A large vintage pictorial map of Alaska, copyright 1959 by R. Klengston Rude, published and distributed by Alaska Arts / Kleng Rude Studio, Studio City, California. Created to mark Alaska’s admission as the 49th state (proclamation signed by President Eisenhower in 1959), this colorful cartoon-style map is richly illustrated with wildlife (polar bears, moose, caribou, grizzlies, eagles), indigenous Alaskan totem poles, mining and fishing scenes, indigenous settlements, bush pilots, and historic notes including Captain Cook’s 1778 exploration route. The map is bordered by a decorative mosaic-style pattern and features vignette portrait medallions in the corners depicting historical/territorial figures. Measures approximately 44+ inches wide (See photos for exact ruler measurements). Condition: Sold as-is.
