Lot #671: Antique Codd Stopper Bottle Patented 1872

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 2h 5m

This is an antique Codd Stopper bottle, uniquely designed with a glass marble trapped inside the neck. Patented in 1872 by British engineer Hiram Codd, these bottles used the internal pressure of carbonated drinks to push the marble against a rubber washer, sealing the bottle. To open the bottle, a special tool or plunger (often provided with the bottle or cap) was pushed down to pop the marble inward into a caged recess in the neck, allowing the drink to flow past. This one is old and from Britain. Dimensions: 8 1/2" h. Pickup category timeslot {A}
