Lot #754: Pair of 7 Foot Tall Monumental Chinese Temple Vases

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 2h 8m

These 7-foot-tall monumental Chinese temple vases are prominent statement pieces featuring highly detailed incised patterns, often showcasing floral, dragon, or scenic motifs.Due to their extreme size, vases of this caliber are traditionally crafted using materials like heavy ceramic porcelain or lacquered, incised wood/resin composites. They are historically displayed in pairs on ornate, matching carved wooden stands to enhance stability and prominence. The red square seal mark in the image reads 大清乾隆年製 (Dà Qīng Qiánlóng Nián Zhì), which translates to "Made during the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing Dynasty" (1736–1795). [1, 2] Key Details About the Mark Written in stylized traditional Chinese seal script (zhuanshu) within a square border. Historical Context: While genuine Qianlong period imperial wares bear this mark, exact replica square seal marks in iron-red overglaze are extremely common on later 20th-century decorative and export porcelain (such as pieces produced in Jingdezhen from the 1950s to 1980s) intended to honor earlier imperial aesthetics rather than date the actual manufacture to the 18th century.
