Original Winter Landscape Watercolor by Grant McConnell, MFA Up for auction is a beautifully preserved, original winter landscape watercolor painting by highly regarded Canadian contemporary artist and educator Grant McConnell. This serene, atmospheric piece depicts a classic Canadian rural winter scene, capturing a brown barn set against a stark, snow-covered landscape under a muted sky. The artwork showcases McConnell’s masterful handling of soft, layered watercolor washes, subtle shadowing, and his keen eye for regional topography. The texture of the heavy-weight cold-press watercolor paper lends beautiful depth and life to the winter snow. The painting is clearly and cleanly hand-signed by the artist in pencil in the lower-left quadrant: "Grant McConnell". Artist Biography & Provenance Born in Ontario in 1958, Grant McConnell is a highly respected figure within the Canadian fine arts community. He received his BFA from Mount Allison University and his MFA from the University of Saskatchewan in 1983. Based in Saskatoon, McConnell has balanced a prolific studio career with roles as an educator at St. Peter's College and the University of Saskatchewan. A passionate advocate for the arts, he has served as the National Chair for CARFAC, and as a board member for the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Remai Modern. While widely celebrated today for his complex historical acrylic panels on wood, this piece represents an excellent, highly collectible example of his earlier, classic landscape works on paper.
