Original mid-20th-century oil painting on linen canvas, circa 1950s–1960s, by German artist Rosemary Gärtner (born 1918), known for her series of traditional Tyrolean and Bavarian character studies. 

This piece presents an elderly regional character wearing a traditional hat with a feather and smoking a pipe. It is signed Gärtner in the lower left corner and retains a German &#34;Leinen&#34; canvas stamp on the reverse.

Housed in a decorative wooden frame with a gold finish revealing red bole underneath and an olive-green velvet inner liner. Includes a hanging wire on the back.
