Michael Bonnor - Hand-Lathed "London Plane" Bowl • G. Michael Bonner (1938 - 2024) was in Hamburg, Germany, grew up in Denmark. • Michael moved to Canada to study forestry at the University of Toronto, and obtained a PhD in Forestry in 1970. • He was an active member of the Van. Is. Wood turner's guild, and had a love for the "history" of trees. • London Plane is a hybrid of the American Sycamore and Oriental plane. • Shelbourne Memorial Avenue: In 1921, a living memorial of exactly 600 London plane trees was planted along Shelbourne Street from Victoria through Saanich to commemorate local soldiers who fought and fell in World War I. I believe this bowl was turned from part of one of these trees. • When quarter-sawn or turned, it displays a distinct freckled, "lacewood" pattern with prominent medullary rays. • It typically features light reddish-brown heartwood paired with pale yellowish sapwood, which darkens over time. • In excellent condition, no chips, breaks, or cracks. View im ages. • 3.25 cm. 19 cm. x 19 cm. Dimensions: 3.25 cm. 19 cm. x 19 cm. Pickup category timeslot {A}
