Indian rosewood marquetry panel - Gita Upadesh • This artwork comes from Mysore (now Mysuru), a historic heritage city in the southern state of Karnataka, India. Known universally as the "City of Palaces • I believe this was made between 1960 and 1970, because the inlay is bone. After the 1970's plastic was used for the inlayed sections. • This plaque is crafted in the traditional Mysore wooden inlay (marquetry) style from Karnataka, India. • This piece is made with a dark rosewood decorated with fitted pieces of bone, and contrasting natural woods to form the figures and patterns. • The artwork shows Lord Krishna serving as the divine charioteer for the warrior-prince Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Krishna is seen holding the reins and raising his hand as he imparts the sacred spiritual teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to a contemplative Arjuna • In very good condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips, but there is a scratch.
