Late 19th-Century Japanese "Igezara" Export Ware - Cake Platter • This was produced in the (Meiji period, circa 1880-1900. • Western Shapes Made for Export: During the late Victorian era, Japanese potters in regions like Arita and Minoproduced ceramics specifically tailored to Western tastes. • Japanese export operations frequently added localized gilding to molded decorative elements. • "Blurry" transfer lines: Japanese makers used a cloth-stencil technique so the cobalt glaze to penetrate the porcelain during high-temperature firing. • This platter lacks a mark on the back, because these pieces were produced rapidly across thousands of small, family-owned kilns for mass distribution overseas, the vast majority of daily-use Igezara plates were left entirely blank on the back. • In excellent condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips.
