Folk Art Log Cabin Model
• I have not been able to discover who
made this &#34;folksy Log Cabin&#34;, but believe
it was made in BC, and most likely on
Vancouver Is.
• This is a handcrafted piece for a
display, a train model, or even as
architectural rendering of an actual cabin.
• This model is a two-story design with a
textured, shingled-style roof.
• The chimney is crafted from small,
smooth river stones, held together with a
mortar-like adhesive to mimic a real
stone hearth.
• The combination of horizontal &#34;logs&#34; on
the lower level and vertical planks on the
upper level is characteristic of transitional
folk art, where different building styles
are represented in one piece.
• The shingles appear to be made from
natural cedar bark.
• The &#34;main floor&#34; has a pot belly stove, a
fireplace and hearth, a chair, and a ladder
leading to the second floor.
• The &#34;second floor&#34; has a bed with a
&#34;hand knitted&#34; bedspread, a chest of
draws, and the two &#34;stove pipes. which
act to anchor the roof.
• My best guess to age is sometime
between 1950 and 1970, because of the
plastic for the windows, and the type of
yarn for the bedspread.
• In fairly good condition, no cracks,
breaks, but some roof tiles are missing

indicates this item was likely produced
during the 1960&#39;s or 1970&#39;s mid-century

• G. Michael Bonner (1938 - 2024) was
in Hamburg, Germany, grew up in
Denmark.
• Michael moved to Canada to study
forestry at the University of Toronto, and
obtained a PhD in Forestry in 1970.
• He was an active member of the Van.
Is. Wood turner&#39;s guild, and had a love
for the &#34;history&#34; of trees.
• London Plane is a hybrid of the
American Sycamore and Oriental plane.
• Shelbourne Memorial Avenue: In
1921, a living memorial of exactly 600
London plane trees was planted along
Shelbourne Street from Victoria through
Saanich to commemorate local soldiers
who fought and fell in World War I. I
believe this bowl was turned from part of
one of these trees.
• When quarter-sawn or turned, it
displays a distinct freckled, &#34;lacewood&#34;
pattern with prominent medullary rays.
• It typically features light reddish-brown
heartwood paired with pale yellowish
sapwood, which darkens over time.

• Harold Heck was a member of the
Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild, he
lived in the Victoria or Saanich area
• There is a reference that he preferred
using wood that could be salvaged, such
as fallen Gary Oaks, or other wind blown
or damaged finds.
• I believe that the wood turner choose
hardwoods with prominent wavy grain
patterns like walnut, teak, or cherry..
• This box has a lathe-turned. The body
is made of segmented or block-stacked
assembly technique to form the bulbous
shape of this piece, while the lid is
constructed of two pieces; the knob, and
the lid. It has a skillfully turned lip on the
lid for a tight fit to the box section.
• The lid has been expertly crafted to
make a tight-fitting flush fit to the base.

• Norman Peterson (1924-1989) was a
prominent, Canadian folk art woodcarver
from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
• He was a self taught wood carver, and

wood. The natural, swirling patterns of
the sumac grain accentuated the large
concentric facial rings of the bird&#39;s eyes.

his death from a heart attack.

bone, and contrasting natural woods to
form the figures and patterns.
• The artwork shows Lord Krishna
serving as the divine charioteer for the
warrior-prince Arjuna on the battlefield of
Kurukshetra. Krishna is seen holding the
reins and raising his hand as he imparts
the sacred spiritual teachings of the

• She is identified by her distinct oval
face, crescent eyes, high slim nose, and
characteristic three red dots; one on the
forehead, and one on each cheek-
which historically are beauty marks.
• These were originating from the Hahoe
Folk Village in Andong, South Korea,
these hand-carved wooden masks date
back to the 12th century Goryeo
Dynasty, and are carved from alder

• Artibus Porcelain (1947 - 1980&#39;s) was
founded by a group of skilled ceramicists

pottery and operated from 1921 to 1989.
• This Dutch word on ins back translates
to &#34;hand painted&#34; confining that the
decoration was done by done by an
artist rather than transfer ware.

• NORTHAG was a key NATO military

Decoy
• This type of decoy are traditionally
crafted by Mushkego, James Bay Cree,
and the Eeyou Cree hunters as lures for
migrating geese.
• The &#34;hole&#34; in the head section
represents the white patch on the side of
the head of the Canadian Goose.
• This decoy is bound using a very fine,
uniform commercial nylon thread or
monofilament line. Which dates this
decoy between 1970 and 1990, as
cotton thread was used before this date.
• The sculpture is woven from natural
tamarack (larch) twigs, which give off a
pleasant woodland fragrance. If the scent
fades, submerging the decoy in hot
water for ten minutes can revive it
• Originally this decoy had three
traditional larch brand legs. These have
been replaced at some point in the past.
• In very good condition, no breaks,
minor chipping of wood material. Note
that the &#34;legs&#34; are replacements. View
