1970's Ikat - "Diamond & Arrowhead" Material Remnant from Thailand • In Thailand, the resist-dyeing technique is known as Mat Mi (commonly spelled Mudmee). It is primarily practiced by weavers in the Northeast region Isan, such as in Khon Kaen or Surin provinces • This remnant material was part of a dress, which has the beginning solid indigo blue, and then the beginning of the ikat pattern, • On a traditional handloom, weaving a single mete of patterned cloth typically takes anywhere from 4 to 8 hours of continuous, intensive labor. • This does not include the wrapping of warp and weft threads, the dying or the material or the time to "dress the loom" This is a very time consuming process. • This piece was purchased in Thailand 30 years ago, and was at least 20 years old when purchased. They used natural "Indigo" dye for the colour. • In excellent condition, no rips, breaks, or holes, there is a seam.
