Lot #136: Reproduction "Fahua Ware" Ginger Jar

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 55m

Reproduction "Fahua Ware" Ginger Jar • The design behind this ginger jar is based on a mid-to-late 20th-century interpretation of an elite, ancient Chinese ceramic style called Fahua ware (ttk). • There are three deeply impressed bamboo designs on the jar, that have been decorated using a resist technique, and then cobalt oxide painted on, so there are matte and shiny sections. • This piece was slip cast molded with a porcelain slip clay, and fired in a high cone 10 gas kiln. • It was produced in China for the Western export market, likely between the 1970's and 1990's. • The hand-stamped, slightly blurred "MADE INCHINA" text in underglaze cobalt blue is characteristic of factory production from this late vintage era. • It is a very unusual pattern, style, and design. It was more labour intensive to make, and these deep-molded relief lines were produced in far fewer quantities. • In excellent condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips. There is no matching lid.
