Vintage Japanese Kutani Porcelain Dish • It features the traditional Kutani-yaki style, originating from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan • The central pattern is a classic Kacho- ga "bird-and-flower" motif with a sparrow in flight near a blooming peony. This is paired with an asymmetrical geometric panel pattern that mimics an opened decorative folding fan. • This piece has has several different kiln firings; 1st the bisque where the iron oxide brown, and the cobalt on the back were added. 2nd the clear glazes, and a resists to keep the iron oxide matte. 3rd the enamels and oxides to create the scene, and the 4th for the gold gilt. • Each design on the back is slightly different from the other, because they are hand painted. • The design means: Japanese auspicious motif known as a Fundo (3) 17 - weight) or Shippo (tE Seven Treasures) • In excellent condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips.
