(1890 - 1930) Chinese Porcelain Lidded Food Container • This container was manufactured in Jingdezhen during the Late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period (circa 1890- 1930's). • The jar is a hand-painted with a polychrome enamel decoration over a white glaze. • It is consistent with the famille rose palette with soft pinks, iron-reds, and greens for the botanical motifs. • This vessel has a nested fitting dome lid that aligns smoothly with the rounded sides of the main bowl. The top of the lid is finished with a hollow, flared knob. • These covered pots or deep food bowls were widely produced in specialized kiln centres like Jingdezhen between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They served multiple household purposes functioning as decorative accessories or containers for storing loose tea, ginger, sweetmeats, or rice. • The red stamp on the base of your lidded container is a four-character Qianlong reign mark read as " 7 q" (Qianlong Nian Zhi), which translates to "Made during the Qianlong Reign." • ‡ (Qian) - Top right, (# (Long) - Bottom right, # (Nian) - Top left (meaning "Year") #4 (Zhi) - Bottom left (meaning "Made"). • There is also a chop mark inside the hollow knob of a lid. This served to unify the two separate components during production and firing in the kiln. • In very good condition, There is a crack, and some chips.
