Lot #145: Two Chinese Yixing Zisha Clay Serving Trays

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 3m

Two Chinese Yixing Zisha Clay Serving Trays • These trays was made during the Late Cultural Revolution to the early Export Era, (mid-1970's to the mid-1980" s), because during the Cultural Revolution (which ended in 1976), and the immediate years following, promoting individual "bourgeois" artist names was heavily discouraged or outright banned. • Therefore there is no artists signature or chop mark on this piece. • The bamboo designs were chiselled onto the clay when it was "bone dry" or "leather-hard" stage, but unfired. Then the tray went through a single firing in an electric or gas kiln. • This is an unglazed Zisha (purple sand) clay, a porous stoneware traditionally mined in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China. • Because the trays are unglazed it has a signature matte, earthy red-brown finish. • These trays act as a presentation base or catch-tray during traditional Chinese Gongfu tea ceremonies. • In excellent condition, no cracks, breaks, or chips.
