Folk Art Log Cabin Model
• I have not been able to discover who
made this &#34;folksy Log Cabin&#34;, but believe
it was made in BC, and most likely on
Vancouver Is.
• This is a handcrafted piece for a
display, a train model, or even as
architectural rendering of an actual cabin.
• This model is a two-story design with a
textured, shingled-style roof.
• The chimney is crafted from small,
smooth river stones, held together with a
mortar-like adhesive to mimic a real
stone hearth.
• The combination of horizontal &#34;logs&#34; on
the lower level and vertical planks on the
upper level is characteristic of transitional
folk art, where different building styles
are represented in one piece.
• The shingles appear to be made from
natural cedar bark.
• The &#34;main floor&#34; has a pot belly stove, a
fireplace and hearth, a chair, and a ladder
leading to the second floor.
• The &#34;second floor&#34; has a bed with a
&#34;hand knitted&#34; bedspread, a chest of
draws, and the two &#34;stove pipes. which
act to anchor the roof.
• My best guess to age is sometime
between 1950 and 1970, because of the
plastic for the windows, and the type of
yarn for the bedspread.
• In fairly good condition, no cracks,
breaks, but some roof tiles are missing

highlighting the swirling patterns formed
where tree branches divide.
• The stylized, hand-branded &#34;Kamani
wood&#34; script combined with the round
&#34;Made in Philippines&#34; foil-style stamp
indicates this item was likely produced
during the 1960&#39;s or 1970&#39;s mid-century
modern tiki and tropical design boom.

• G. Michael Bonner (1938 - 2024) was
in Hamburg, Germany, grew up in
Denmark.
• Michael moved to Canada to study
forestry at the University of Toronto, and
obtained a PhD in Forestry in 1970.
• He was an active member of the Van.
Is. Wood turner&#39;s guild, and had a love
for the &#34;history&#34; of trees.
• London Plane is a hybrid of the
American Sycamore and Oriental plane.
• Shelbourne Memorial Avenue: In
1921, a living memorial of exactly 600
London plane trees was planted along
Shelbourne Street from Victoria through
Saanich to commemorate local soldiers
who fought and fell in World War I. I
believe this bowl was turned from part of
one of these trees.
• When quarter-sawn or turned, it
displays a distinct freckled, &#34;lacewood&#34;
pattern with prominent medullary rays.
• It typically features light reddish-brown
heartwood paired with pale yellowish
sapwood, which darkens over time.
• In excellent condition, no chips, breaks,

Harold Heck - Hand Lathed Lidded Bowl
• Harold Heck was a member of the
Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild, he
lived in the Victoria or Saanich area
• There is a reference that he preferred
using wood that could be salvaged, such
as fallen Gary Oaks, or other wind blown
or damaged finds.
• I believe that the wood turner choose
hardwoods with prominent wavy grain
patterns like walnut, teak, or cherry..
• This box has a lathe-turned. The body
is made of segmented or block-stacked
assembly technique to form the bulbous
shape of this piece, while the lid is
constructed of two pieces; the knob, and
the lid. It has a skillfully turned lip on the
lid for a tight fit to the box section.
• The lid has been expertly crafted to
make a tight-fitting flush fit to the base.

• The eyes are made from either black
beads or glass/acrylic taxidermy eyes.
• He used
&#34;salvaged&#34; wood, but I believe
this is sone of the local pine woods that
grow in his area.

• Norman Peterson (1924-1989) was a
prominent, Canadian folk art woodcarver
from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
• He was a self taught wood carver, and
turned his creativity to carving owls and
other small birds.
• He primarily carved out of local Sumac
wood. The natural, swirling patterns of
the sumac grain accentuated the large
concentric facial rings of the bird&#39;s eyes.
• This piece is darted 1988, a year before
his death from a heart attack.

• Philip Leroy Cottell (1941-2021) was a
highly respected Vancouver Island wood
artist and former forestry professor at the
University of British Columbia.

he helped to establish and was a
founding member the Vancouver Island
Woodturners Guild.
• His work has been featured in regional
craft galleries and exhibits.
• His expertise was recognized
internationally as a member of the
American Association of Woodturners
(AAW). This &#34;tree&#34; was made from Arbutus
(Arbutus menzies). It is Canada&#39;s only
native broadleaf evergreen tree.
• This piece is signed by the artist on the
base.

and lighter sapwood.

&#34;large&#34;, and is circa 1950&#39;s-1970&#39;s.

stress fracture (radial check split) due to

After the 1970&#39;s plastic was used for the
inlayed sections.
• This plaque is crafted in the traditional
Mysore wooden inlay (marquetry) style
from Karnataka, India.
• This piece is made with a dark
rosewood decorated with fitted pieces of
bone, and contrasting natural woods to
form the figures and patterns.
• The artwork shows Lord Krishna
serving as the divine charioteer for the
warrior-prince Arjuna on the battlefield of
Kurukshetra. Krishna is seen holding the
reins and raising his hand as he imparts
the sacred spiritual teachings of the
Bhagavad Gita to a contemplative Arjuna

• This is a &#34;modern reproduction&#34; of the
historic masks, and was made sometime
between 1970 and 1990.
• This is a traditional Korean Hahoe mask
(Hahoetal) representing the character
Bune (Punae), a flirtatious young woman
or concubine.
• She is identified by her distinct oval
face, crescent eyes, high slim nose, and
characteristic three red dots; one on the
forehead, and one on each cheek-
which historically are beauty marks.
• These were originating from the Hahoe
Folk Village in Andong, South Korea,
these hand-carved wooden masks date
back to the 12th century Goryeo
Dynasty, and are carved from alder
wood. &#34;Orital&#34; in Korean.

Artibus - Lg. Centrepiece Platter
• Artibus Porcelain (1947 - 1980&#39;s) was
founded by a group of skilled ceramicists
and master artisans in Aveiro, Portugal.
• Artibus specialized in mid-to-high-end
decorative homewares, but are especially
known for their &#34;reproductions&#34; of
Rococo & Regency Revivals porcelains.
• The design is a tribute to the famous
&#34;Batwing&#34; pattern attributed to Coalport
Porcelain pieces of the late 19th century.
• The cobalt and the gold gilt were
produced through transferware process,
however all the flowers are hand painted
This required several kiln firings. first with
various oxides and underglazes, and a
other firings for the various enamels
which leave a slight &#34;raised&#34; texture, and
finally for the gold gilt.
• Based on the design of the back stamp,
this specific Artibus porcelain platter was
manufactured between 1955 and 1975.

circa 1880-1900.
• Western Shapes Made for Export:
During the late Victorian era, Japanese
potters in regions like Arita and
Minoproduced ceramics specifically
tailored to Western tastes.
• Japanese export operations frequently
added localized gilding to molded
decorative elements.
• &#34;Blurry&#34; transfer lines: Japanese
makers used a cloth-stencil technique so
the cobalt glaze to penetrate the
porcelain during high-temperature firing.
• This platter lacks a mark on the back,
because these pieces were produced
rapidly across thousands of small,
family-owned kilns for mass distribution
overseas, the vast majority of daily-use
Igezara plates were left entirely blank on
the back.

• This was made by &#34;Delfts Blauw&#34; or
Delft Blue handcrafted the Netherlands.
• The &#34;RAM&#34; mark shows a stylized ram&#39;s
head under the crown which belongs to
the Plateelbakkerij Ceramics factory in
Arnhem, Netherlands. This factory was
known for high quality hand painted
pottery and operated from 1921 to 1989.
• This Dutch word on ins back translates
to &#34;hand painted&#34; confining that the
decoration was done by done by an
artist rather than transfer ware.

- (20-8-1966. These mark the dates of
his service with the NORTHAG G-4
Division of NATO.
• NORTHAG was a key NATO military
formation during the Cold War, and was
established in 1952 and active until 1993

features a Frankish battle-axe which was
the official badge of NORTHAG.
• Multinational Shields: Surrounding the
central shield are smaller shields
representing the member nations or
specific corps under NORTHAG&#39;s

the the UK&#39;s Lion.
• Laurel Wreath: The blue laurel wreath is
the traditional symbol for honour and
victory.

• This bowl is specifically from the
pottery village of Nabeul.
• The stamp on the bottom depicting a
hand holding a paintbrush or stylus
represents the intricate freehand
brushstroke work done in the decorative
ateliers of Nabeul.
• The swirling, stylized vines that spiral
outward from the centre of the bowl
represent the &#34;Tree of Life&#34; or &#34;Lowiza&#34;
motif. The way the branches split and
entwine represents interconnected
ancestral roots and generations.
• The &#34;speckled&#34; styling represents
seeds or grains, which are symbols of
fertility, wealth, and prosperity.

• These trays, known locally as a batea
de asado or bandeja copetín, are a
staple of Argentinian &#34;gaucho culture&#34;
and traditional barbecue rituals.
• This one does not have a maker&#39;s
make.
• They use a variety of native hardwoods
in Argentina; (Cebil, Incienso, Lapacho,
Petrine or Guayubira., however, I&#39;m not
sure which this is.
• These are handcrafted often from
recycled wood, and the Iron Horseshoe
handles accent often come from
recycling as well.
• Each piece is unique. The cutting board
surface has been cured with mineral oil.
• In excellent condition, no cracks,
breaks, or chips. View Images.
