Silver brooch designed and signed by Henryk Winograd. This lovely interchangeable brooch or pendant features a portrait in the Classical style.

This stunning brooch is by famed silversmith Henryk Winograd. It depicts a Bacchante, a follower of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, festivity, and ecstasy. In 999 fine silver, the craftsmanship captures the essence of celebration and abundance associated with Bacchanalian themes. Her face is framed with grapevines and leaves, details that are emblematic of the god’s attendants.

The exquisite relief work exemplifies Winograd's repoussé mastery, providing depth and texture that bring the Bacchante to life. The imagery not only demonstrates artistic finesse but also serves as a symbolic nod to the revelry and freedom that Henryk Winograd found and expressed in his art after enduring and overcoming profound hardships.

A Polish-born silversmith, Winograd honed his craft under his father's guidance before his life took a harrowing turn during World War II, leading him to seek refuge in Russia. Enduring the severe hardships of Stalin's labor camps, Henryk was long denied the chance to practice his art. It wasn't until he arrived in the United States that he could pursue his passion for silversmithing, where his talent flourished. Henryk's exceptional skill in repoussé — the art of hammering metal into relief from the reverse side — earned him acclaim as one of the most distinguished silversmiths in the country. His work garnered such respect that he was given the singular honor of presenting a solo exhibition in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C.

3 Art pieces by Charles Frederick Surendorf, each are on delicate thin papers that show up as linocuts when researched.

1. Original linocut print titled "Wells Fargo Building - Columbia" by the prominent California artist Charles Frederick Surendorf (1906–1979). 13.5 x 10.5

2. Linocut print titled City Hotel, Columbia by Northern California artist Charles Frederick Surendorf (1906–1979), created around 1946. Says 3d Ed / 100. 16.75 x 12

3. Linoleum engraving (linocut) titled Little Red Church - Sonora by the American California regionalist artist Charles Frederick Surendorf (1906–1979), created around the 1930s to 1950s. 10.5 x 8.25.

Charles Frederick Surendorf (1906–1979) grew up in Richmond, a small town in east-central Indiana, before heading off to Ohio State in Columbus to start his art training. He didn’t stop there—he went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the Art Students League in New York, soaking up as much artistic influence as he couldBy 1935 he had made his way west to the Bay Area, where he taught at Mills College in Oakland and quickly became part of the region’s thriving art scene. He even served as director of the San Francisco Art Festival and, a little later, founded the Mother Lode Art School in Columbia, California, in 1956—a fitting spot, right in the heart of gold rush country.

The themes of California’s mining past show up again and again in Surendorf’s work, and Columbia, where he lived and eventually passed away in 1979, became his home base. He was a printmaker through and through, starting with traditional woodblocks before switching to “battleship” linoleum, which he toughened up by freezing before engraving it with steel tools. His process was as unique as his subject matter, and between 1934 and 1971 he created more than 250 prints. His skill didn’t go unnoticed—Art Digest once named him one of the top 25 woodblock artists in the world.

Today, his work can still be found in museum collections, including the Oakland Museum of California and the Mills College Art Museum. Surendorf’s prints capture not just the look of California’s landscapes and history, but the grit and craft of an artist who carved his own path, quite literally, into the blocks he worked with.

Two ironing boards one is wooden, vintage, well-kept, and still works great. It is very easy to fold up, and store in a smaller space if needed. The more modern version has an orange bottom, with a lever to close. It has some stains, but can be removed to replace the cover. The second ironing board also works very well, and is pretty sturdy.
