The Artist: Illustrated by Bart van der Leck (1876–1958), a celebrated Dutch painter, designer, and ceramicist. He was a co-founder of the highly influential avant-garde art movement De Stijl alongside Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. Movement Style: De Stijl / Geometric Abstraction. The composition is famous for its early radical reduction of natural forms into hard geometric planes, flat solid fills, and highly restricted color blocks (predominantly absolute black, white, and a single bold red ground platform). Permanent Home: The original 1914 painting resides in the permanent collection of the world-renowned Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, Netherlands.
