Lot #709: Paul CARON & Charles TILLEY - Lithograph Canadian Art Prints

Group of three vintage mounted Canadian art reproductions issued by The Montreal Lithographing Co., Limited. Includes “An October Day on Mount Royal” after Paul CARON (1874–1941), “The Oldest Protestant Church in Canada, L’Assomption, A.D. 1750” after Charles TILLEY, dated 1942 in the image, and a winter scene titled “Cochand—Ste. Marguerite, Que.”, reproduced from a Kodachrome by F. Pauli. Each approximately 15 x 18 in. Paul CARON was an important Montreal painter, watercolourist, illustrator and printmaker who studied under William Brymner, Maurice Cullen and Edmond Dyonnet, exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy and Art Association of Montreal, and became an Associate of the RCA in 1939. His work is represented in major Canadian institutional collections, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. These are period commercial lithographic reproductions rather than original works by the artists, with printed titles and “Compliments of The Montreal Lithographing Co., Limited” along the lower margins.
