Impressive heavily carved ornate dragon or gryphon set to hold a mirror in a frame. This rare piece is in the style of Gabriel Viardot (1830-1906) (see 1rst dibs for information on Viardot). Originally this item was in the Villa of an Italian Count in the late 1800s and so it is possible that it is Viardot. Condition is consistent with age and use - see photographs. Normally this dragon holds a mirror, which may be added by the buyer. Beautiful piece with great movement. Reminiscent of the MockingJay from Hunger Games or something out of Harry Potter the Lord of the Rings. Category: Antiques, Collectibles, Dragon or Griffon, Heavily carved antique hand-carved wooden dragon frame, originally from a 19th-century decorative wall mirror in the style of Gabriel Viardot. Carved Components Dragon Head & Neck: The top section features a detailed, horned dragon head curving downward. Wings: Two large, intricately carved wooden wings are spread out on either side. Tail: A long, scaly tail piece with a decorative fin sits at the bottom right. Style and History Era: This style is consistent with late 19th-century (Victorian or Napoleon III) European-Asian furniture and decor.
