This series is made up of 10 images and when purchased together would have been presented in the black folder that is sold as a separate lot. All 10 images are in this auction, buy one or collect them all! 

In the late 80’s and early 1990’s, Loates tackled his most challenging and creative project to date.  The John James Audubon Master Edition series of prints are among the finest made prints in the world and in 1993 Bernard was awarded for his unparalleled achievement with the prestigious Gutenberg Award of Excellence. 

Master lithographer M. Bernard Loates created these very limited edition prints of Audubon images in 1992. The goal was to recreate these pieces as Audubon would have wanted them done – all would be identical with true consistent coloring. Working from original Havell/Audubon engravings, Loates and his crew of printing and colorist master craftsmen began by stripping the images back to the original 1820’s black line engravings. Bird skins were borrowed from museums so that the colorists could accurately match the original bird colors. The colorists hand-mixed German “Light Fast” inks to match the actual live plumage of the birds depicted. Colours were added one at a time, maximum 1 color per working day, using hand-cut overlays. No image had fewer than 32 passes through the single-color press. It took up to 6 months to complete the images and nearly 70% of the stock was wasted in production testing and aligning. The extremely fine 400 line screens produce a photograph-like continuous tone image even under magnification.

“Sand lake Algoma” by Lawren Harris

These pieces are created using a specialized process where a cast is made from the original painting, allowing the reproduction to capture the exact texture, brushstrokes, and imperfections of the original. 

This work of art is an exclusive master, edition, lithograph, printed on neutral PH Phoenix imperial, fine, art paper, employing the unique Phoenix process. The lithograph is mounted on an African hardwood panel, before being pressed into a mold simulating the feel of an original oil painting. This is number 37 of 460 ever made.

These recreations require as many as 40 hand mixed colors, which are laid down one at a time. This labour intensive procedure is further enhanced for the use of special light fast ink. Following the principles of applying light tone values first, then gradually building up the darker tones, the craftsman are able to capture, on a single colour rotary press, the subtle chromatic details of the original.

The Phoenix process was developed in Ontario by M.Bernard Loates, a man with 25 years of experience, five consecutive printing awards and a well-known genius for the archival reiteration and printing of graphic images. To describe his results as successful is not to give him due credit. They are breathtaking. Those few people who have been privileged to compare Mr. Loates recreation panels with the original works, have been moved by more than simple admiration. The astonishing fact is that Bernard himself cannot tell the difference it is literally necessary to examine the backs of the panels in order to distinguish the originals. Pictorially, the originals and their recreated panels are identical in every detail. Every brushstroke, every patch of unpainted surface, is duplicated with perfection. 

These reproductions are noted for being highly detailed, often described as having &#34;perfect fidelity&#34; to the original paintings.

This series is made up of 10 images and when purchased together would have been presented in the black folder that is sold as a separate lot. All 10 images are in this auction, buy one or collect them all! 

In the late 80’s and early 1990’s, Loates tackled his most challenging and creative project to date.  The John James Audubon Master Edition series of prints are among the finest made prints in the world and in 1993 Bernard was awarded for his unparalleled achievement with the prestigious Gutenberg Award of Excellence. 

Master lithographer M. Bernard Loates created these very limited edition prints of Audubon images in 1992. The goal was to recreate these pieces as Audubon would have wanted them done – all would be identical with true consistent coloring. Working from original Havell/Audubon engravings, Loates and his crew of printing and colorist master craftsmen began by stripping the images back to the original 1820’s black line engravings. Bird skins were borrowed from museums so that the colorists could accurately match the original bird colors. The colorists hand-mixed German “Light Fast” inks to match the actual live plumage of the birds depicted. Colors were added one at a time, maximum 1 color per working day, using hand-cut overlays. No image had fewer than 32 passes through the single-color press. It took up to 6 months to complete the images and nearly 70% of the stock was wasted in production testing and aligning. The extremely fine 400 line screens produce a photograph-like continuous tone image even under magnification.

“Winter Village, Lower St. Lawrence&#34; by A. Y. Jackson

These pieces are created using a specialized process where a cast is made from the original painting, allowing the reproduction to capture the exact texture, brushstrokes, and imperfections of the original. 

This work of art is an exclusive master, edition, lithograph, printed on neutral PH Phoenix imperial, fine, art paper, employing the unique Phoenix process. The lithograph is mounted on an African hardwood panel, before being pressed into a mold simulating the feel of an original oil painting. This is number —of 460 ever made.

These recreations require as many as 40 hand mixed colors, which are laid down one at a time. This labour intensive procedure is further enhanced for the use of special light fast ink. Following the principles of applying light tone values first, then gradually building up the darker tones, the craftsman are able to capture, on a single colour rotary press, the subtle chromatic details of the original.

The Phoenix process was developed in Ontario by M.Bernard Loates, a man with 25 years of experience, five consecutive printing awards and a well-known genius for the archival reiteration and printing of graphic images. To describe his results as successful is not to give him due credit. They are breathtaking. Those few people who have been privileged to compare Mr. Loates recreation panels with the original works, have been moved by more than simple admiration. The astonishing fact is that Bernard himself cannot tell the difference it is literally necessary to examine the backs of the panels in order to distinguish the originals. Pictorially, the originals and their recreated panels are identical in every detail. Every brushstroke, every patch of unpainted surface, is duplicated with perfection. 

These reproductions are noted for being highly detailed, often described as having &#34;perfect fidelity&#34; to the original paintings.

Thomas Kinkade, known as the “Painter of Light,” was one of America’s most widely recognized contemporary artists. His paintings are celebrated for their warm, inviting atmosphere and their ability to evoke feelings of peace, comfort, nostalgia, and home.
