Beautiful limited edition hand signed print “Howling Wolf” by Norman Knott Norman Knott (1945–2003), also known by the name White Bear, was a highly respected Anishinaabe/Ojibwe artist from Curve Lake First Nation, just north of Peterborough, Ontario. A self-taught artist, Knott developed a distinctive style that brought together the naturalistic observation of wildlife with the symbolism and spiritual traditions of his Ojibwe heritage. His deep connection to the land and the natural world became a defining element of his work, particularly in his portrayals of animals and birds. Norman Knott’s influence also extended beyond his own paintings. He was generous in sharing his knowledge of Anishinaabe artistic traditions with other artists, including members of his own community. His work inspired younger Indigenous artists and helped bring greater recognition to First Nations art from the Curve Lake area. Today, his paintings remain an important part of the artistic heritage of the Kawarthas and continue to be appreciated for their combination of natural beauty, wildlife and Anishinaabe symbolism.
