Lot #228: Rare Vintage Signed Brutalist Metal Folk Art Go Kart Manuel Felguérez

Rare Vintage Signed Brutalist Metal Folk Art of a child on a kart by Mexican artist Manuel Felguérez. Manuel Felguérez (1928–2020) was a prominent Mexican modernist sculptor and abstract artist. While he is famous in fine-art circles for his large abstract geometric paintings and public murals, his workshop (Arte Felguérez) became widely known for creating handcrafted, whimsical brutalist metal and paper-mâché sculptures. His figurative works typically depict sports, vehicles, children at play (like go-karts, tricycles, and seesaws), and musicians, crafted from welded sheet iron, gears, and painted elements. This one is in fantastic condition with no damage. He would normally hold strings in his hands, leading to the hoops attached to the centre of the front wheels, but they disintegrated away. Add new strings of your own preference! Great piece, don't let it get away. I forgot to measure him, but the tomato is life-size and a good point of comparison. Pickup category timeslot {A}
