Up for auction is a magnificent, heavily crafted mid-to-late 19th-century Victorian silver-plated ice water pitcher. This exceptional piece exhibits the highly collected Neo-Classical / Roman Medallion style and represents a major milestone in American industrial design. Manufactured and plated by the prestigious silversmiths Reed & Barton, it features a patented insulated inner lining. Central Medallion: Both sides showcase an exquisitely detailed, raised profile portrait of a classical warrior wearing a Roman-style helmet, enclosed in an ornate cartouche surrounded by chased foliate elements.Finial: The hinged lid is crowned with a highly detailed figural finial depicting a putto/cherub blowing a conch shell while emerging from ocean waves.Aesthetic Details: Accentuated by timeless Greek Key (meander) borders lining the upper rim, lid base, and footer. The spout features stylized aquatic scrollwork, and the heavy geometric handle is accented with a beautiful central floral rosette.
