Published circa 1850, likely by Newman & Co. or Harris Bros., known for their highly detailed regional topographical vistas. "Watering-Places of England—Bridlington Quay, Yorkshire"A coastal view of early Victorian holidaymakers strolling along the massive stone pier walls while observing turbulent waves crashing below. One figure prominently looks out to sea through a spyglass. This piece features the artist signature B. Foster embedded in the lower center foreground. The designer behind the Bridlington Quay piece is the highly celebrated Victorian illustrator and watercolorist Myles Birket Foster. Born in North Shields, Foster moved to London and apprenticed under the prominent wood engraver Ebenezer Landells.During the late 1840s and 1850s, Foster became an integral contributor to prestigious publications like The Illustrated London News and Punch magazine. The Bridlington Quay print is documented as part of a series published in The Illustrated London News on October 20, 1849. Foster eventually transitioned into a master of romanticized rural watercolors, becoming a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and exhibiting over 400 pieces at the Royal Academy.
