Lot #79: Antique Victorian Revival Octagonal Walnut Parlor Table, c. Late 19th / Early 20th Century

An elegant antique Victorian Revival octagonal parlor or occasional table, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Constructed from a lightweight wood framework, the top surface features a beautiful, multi-directional starburst book-matched walnut veneer that dynamically highlights the natural swirling grain pattern. The tabletop is finished with a distinctively molded, drop-bevel edge. It is supported by four highly stylized, deeply turned, and carved baluster legs. The structure is anchored near the base by a sweeping, curved X-form cross-stretcher, perfectly centered by a turned urn-shaped wooden finial. Good antique condition overall with an appealing age-earned patina. The wood surface displays light, typical minor scuffs, localized finish wear, and slight edge rounding consistent with age and careful use. Structurally sound, stable, and ready to display. The Style & Purpose: Parlor tables of this configuration were essential fixtures in late-Victorian and Edwardian drawing rooms. They were designed to "float" in the center of a room or sit between accent chairs to display books, oil lamps, or tea service. The octagonal form is highly collectible compared to standard round or square variants.Chalk Markings: The chalk signatures or numbers on the underside are typical of 19th-century workshop assembly.
