Lot #34: William Gardner Blackwood ORIGINAL Watercolour

This nicely done watercolour titled “Kawartha Lakes” (1926) is by Canadian artist William Gardner Blackwood (1890-1986). Blackwood began his work in watercolours and oils short after the first appearance of the Group of 7’s art in the 1920s before he vanished from Canada’s emerging art world, only to reappear as a Simpson’s artist who was prevalent from the 1930s-1960s. Blackwood’s subject matter depicted the Laurentian Hills countryside and Ontario’s Muskoka region. With a beautiful autumn forest overlooking a lake, this lovely painting measures 10.0 inches by 7½ inches unframed and is signed on the lower left corner. This watercolour is exceptionally well framed with a solid wood frame using the highest standards of museum framing – double, acid-free Alpha mats (top suede mat), acid-free foam-core backing, and museum glass (the highest standard of glass used in framing). Framed size: 21.0 inches by 19.0 inches. Pickup category timeslot {A}
